Lost Years Rum, the small brand with a big purpose, is today celebrating its latest conservation milestone of 50,000 baby sea turtles saved following its most recent donation to global partner charity SEE Turtles.

Using only authentic Caribbean and Latin American rum, and with no added colours, flavours, spices or sugar, Lost Years Rum was launched at the height of lockdown in November 2020, and was built around a single, ethical purpose; to save endangered sea turtles.

Named after the mysterious early years of a sea turtle’s life, the West Midlands-based brand pledges charity funds for every drop of rum sold, and it intends to save more than one million endangered sea turtles over the next few years, helping to protect one of the world’s oldest and most at-risk inhabitants.

As a result of the fundraising, donations have already hit $5,000USD, which are now funding community-based conservation projects at key nesting sites across the Caribbean & Latin America.

Lost Years Rum Founder, Lee Smith, commented on the update:

We're delighted to hit this latest milestone and to have now contributed enough cash to save a staggering 50,000 baby sea turtles! It’s wonderful that this brand – the idea for which was hatched on our last family holiday in Jamaica in 2019 – is already making such a difference.

The entire reason we started Lost Years Rum was to help as many of these gorgeous little creatures begin their own journey into the 'lost years'. We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us so far on our journey by purchasing a bottle of our delicious rum.”

The update comes as the nation celebrates National Marine Week; a full fortnight in the UK, organised by The Wildlife Trust, created to celebrate seas, oceans and the incredible wildlife found in them. The fifteen-day event runs from the 24th July – 8th August and Lost Years Rum is marking the occasion by doubling its usual donation for each bottle sold during this period.
