A recruitment company for the energy sector is supporting an initiative to educate children about how offshore wind farms can help the environment.

Hydro Energy Group has supported a scheme called OffshoreWind4Kids which has been set up by Dr William Beuckelaers, who obtained his PhD from the University of Oxford specialising in offshore wind turbine foundations.

Dr Beuckelaers is a Belgian civil and geotechnical engineer and has set up the initiative as a side project. He has built several mini portable wind turbines for kids to help them learn about engineering, technology and renewable energy.

Hydro Energy Group is one of the fastest growing energy recruitment businesses in the sector and specialises in the placement of workers in wind farms, including offshore, with many built out in the ocean.

The company has sponsored one of the multiple mini portable wind turbines that Dr Beuckelaers has built which he plans to demo to UK children outside once Covid-19 travel restrictions have been eased in this country.

CEO Benjamin Burns says he was keen to support the initiative which aims to educate the younger generation and promote a sustainable future.

Mr Burns said:

“OffshoreWind4Kids is a fantastic initiative to help teach kids about the importance of wind power as a renewable energy source.

“Many children might have heard of windmills but might not be aware that energy companies use these to make electricity from wind which can heat and light thousands of homes.

“It’s important we teach the younger generation that wind power is an alternative energy source to coal, oil and nuclear reactors and they will help build a sustainable future. Wind power is a renewable source of energy which means it will never run out! It is also pollution free!

“At Hydro Energy Group, we’re also looking to get involved in the evolution of our renewable energy sector so as soon as we found out about William’s project, we wanted to get involved.”

OffshoreWind4Kids not only aims to teach children about the advantages of using wind power but also gets children interested in renewable energy as an industry for potential future career.

Mr Burns added:

“We can only build a sustainable tomorrow if the younger generation of today are educated about renewable energy at an early age. We look forward to continuing our support for OffshoreWind4Kids, especially when it is possible for William to visit UK schools and demo his mini portable wind turbines.”
