..An expert says 'yes' & reveals the most damaging bad SEO habits to avoid

An SEO expert reveals 3 things you could be doing with your SEO that could be permanently damaging your website.

There are good and bad ways to practice SEO and, according to Alex Robinson from SEO Agency Novus Digital, and you could face significant penalties for using bad practices such as your sites or pages or sites being rankedlower in Google Search.

When done right, SEO can put a rocket boost under your business, so to help Alex has revealed the 3 things you should avoid doing to prevent damaging your website for good.

3 Bad SEO Practises to Avoid

1. Link Farming

Link farming is when a bunch of websites all link to each other - it’s done when a group of two or more websites include links in their blogs or other articles to each other to boost ranking for all associated sites.

Since it provides a mutual link opportunity it looks like a win-win, however, Google cottoned onto this a long time ago, and whilst you will see short-term benefits this won't last long if the links are poor quality and not organic.

This practice violates Google’s Webmaster Guidelines, so you can expect your site's visibility and traffic to take a brutal hit as your site can be deemed as ‘spam.’

2. Cloaked Keyword Stuffing

Cloaking keywords is the act of hiding keywords within a given page.

For example - stuffing white text onto a white background, so visually it can’t be seen, but would still be detected by search engines. Usually, it won’t just be a handful of keywords thrown in and often people will toss hundreds of highly SEO-ed phrases into the mix.

Believe it or not, this was a really effective tactic 25 years ago, but Google has now cracked down on this practice as it can mislead users and reduce the accuracy of their search results. If caught doing this Google may permanently ban or index your website or you as a site author.

3. Plagiarising Content

When we talk about plagiarised content, we’re not talking about pulling a few well-inspired sentences from elsewhere, we’re talking about full paragraphs and even articles full-on copy-pasted from other websites.

Duplicating content from another website that is, clearly, of good quality and has good SEO is not only plagiarismbut does not guarantee you the same success. In fact, sites caught doing this can get flagged for plagiarised content or, since your page has nothing new to offer, Google has no reason to index your pages meaning a drop in traffic and site visibility.

While you can often fix bad SEO by scrubbing your site of your bad practices, such as removing bad links, it can still leave a permanent stain on your site and Google can ensure that, no matter what you do, your domain can never get the high-ranking it might deserve.

Think of SEO as a nurturing process for your site - it takes time and effort but the results are always worth it. If you need help, reach out to an expert, they can help guide you to the techniques that your site can actually benefit from.
