The Police Digital Security Centre (PDSC) is partnering with specialist UK cyber insurance provider Cyber Covered, in a move designed to encourage UK SME’s to invest in their cyber security practices.

The PDSC’s Digitally Aware certification scheme has been designed to enable small businesses across the UK to demonstrate that they are ‘Digitally Aware’. Cyber Covered has agreed to fund the cost of the certification program for those small businesses looking to transfer their cyber risk upon certification.

The certification process can be completed through a simple online assessment tool that enables small businesses to regularly review their exposure to the most common forms of cybercrime. This focus on simplicity and awareness of how cyber risk exposures are constantly evolving, aligns with the Cyber Covered commitment to ongoing risk management support, with the firm already offering access to security and compliance software providers for all of their UK policyholders.

Cyber Covered is widely viewed as one of the leading specialist Cyber insurance providers for UK SMEs with its simple online quote and buy platform removing the need for technical specialists to complete onerous risk questionnaires, often leaving small businesses with their cyber exposures uninsured. Offering award winning cyber coverage in a simple and cost-effective way has long been the driving force for all at Cyber Covered, but it is their long-term focus on improving cyber risk management practices of UK businesses that is the key to this most recent partnership.

In support of the new partnership and Digitally Aware certification, Cyber Covered will fund PDSC’s Digitally Aware accreditation with each of the cyber insurance policies.

Cyber Covered Founder, Vincent Kenneth, said of the partnership

“We are delighted to support the Police’s efforts in improving the cyber risk management procedures of businesses across the UK. The ‘new normal’ working environment has only increased the importance to SMEs of taking steps to improve their security practices, given the dramatic rise in the number of employees now working from home, away from their traditional IT support functions.

“With each of our insurance policies, Cyber Covered will pay for our customers to complete the Digitally Aware certification in commitment to improving SMEs across the UK cyber practices”.

Michelle Kradolfer, Cyber Development Officer at the PDSC, said:

Being a specialist insurance provider, Cyber Covered understands the importance of Digitally Aware and how it can benefit their customers cyber security posture, which is why we are delighted to announce our partnership with them.

Cyber Covered and the PDSC are focused on helping SMEs reduce their vulnerability to cyber-crime and fraud by raising awareness about the most common types of cyber-crime and the simple steps they can take to protect themselves. All advice and guidance is consistent with the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

To help businesses start their cyber security journey, the PDSC have developed a simple online assessment tool which will help test the resilience of the business to the most common types of cyber crime. Based on the NCSC’s Small Business Guide, and developed in collaboration with BSI (the British Standards Institution), the Digitally Aware scheme recognises those businesses who have made the first step towards better cyber security.

Having achieved the certification, this can be great for winning new business and demonstrate that you take your cyber and data protection seriously.

Cyber Covered will fund this Digitally Aware certification with each cyber and data insurance policy.
