A Malvern based tech firm has shown its ongoing support towards apprentices and the local business community after attending and participating in this year’s Worcestershire Apprenticeship Show.

Held at the Worcester Warriors Sixways Stadium on the 17th October, the event provided a platform for local employers to endorse a number of roles within both higher and degree level apprenticeships, whilst also promoting their businesses.

Payara’s stand was managed by two of the firm’s own apprentices and a recent graduate who were on-hand to discuss their personal experiences and answer any queries from the year 10-13 school students (and their parents) who had attended.

Currently enrolled on the Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship at Aston University, Alan Roth and Matt Gill shared their thoughts about studying for a Degree apprenticeship at Payara, where Susan Rai was able to give her perspective as a graduate.

Alongside raising awareness of the company and its apprenticeship scheme, the team also organised an interactive demo which showcased the Payara server in action.

Alan Roth said:

“It was great to see so many talented young people interested in a career in software engineering – and potentially many future co-workers! There was plenty of interest in the Payara booth, especially surrounding the demo, which was even a hit with neighbouring recruiters. The number of attendees who didn’t have knowledge of degree apprenticeships was surprising, so it was good to spread the word.”

Susan Rai added:

“It was an inspiration to see so many young people thinking of their future – the attention that our degree apprenticeship received meant that we were able to speak with plenty of keen students. I was also thrilled to clear up some of the stigmas surrounding apprenticeships.”

Specialists in open source software, Payara Services Ltd is headquartered at the Malvern Science Park in Worcestershire and through its international team of 27 staff members successfully services over 50 global customers.

The Worcestershire Apprenticeship Show was yet another success to add to 2019, after the MHDC (Malvern Hills District Council) offered their support to Payara’s apprenticeship programme in August, providing two of the firm’s apprentices with a £1,000 grant each.
