Cloud communications help to ground hybrid working practices

As businesses battle to get back to a pre-pandemic normal, and government advice indicates that staff are no longer required to work from home, Spring 2022 sees the launch of Xelion 8, the latest cloud telephony software from Connaught Communications who are on a mission to help business navigate this lasting effect of Covid.

Research from Gallup and BCG shows that 92% of employees now expect to be able to work from home at least once a week. And a survey by Owl Labs found that 74% of people would be less likely to leave their employer if they were allowed to work remotely.

With the hybrid working model becoming permanent and many organisations still not set up for home working, the telecoms provider, based in North Birmingham is helping businesses avoid “The Great Resignation”; a post-pandemic trend where workers seek roles at companies that offer a better work-life balance and more flexibility.

Jon Sapey, Sales Director at Connaught explains more “Over the past 2 years we’ve seen so many companies struggle because of communication issues. Covid has accelerated the need for flexible phone solutions that keep staff connected to each other and to their customers. Achieving great service levels no longer requires physical hardware in a central office. Organisations are having to adapt and are finding that improving telephony, improves their processes and engagement too.

“Traditional office setups, with a stationed receptionist at a front desk, can be replaced with a remote working team using instant message functions and softphones on company laptops and mobiles.”

Craig Howell, Partner Director at Xelion explains more about the new release:

“We’re really excited about Xelion 8 because as well as all the usual time-saving features, the new version is also fully integrated with Microsoft 365 and Teams so it helps businesses and their employees work even smarter. And we know that when businesses communicate better, employees are more engaged and performance improves.”

According to 2021 research, nearly two-thirds of European business leaders reported that hybrid working makes companies more profitable, with 25% lower employee turnover. Differences can also be seen in the financial arena, with 40% of managers observing cost savings and 25% of employees willing to take a pay cut to allow for flexible working in their roles.

Despite initial objections, hybrid working may be just as beneficial for organisations as it is for individuals. Which means hybrid working may just be one of the positive and long-lasting side effects of Covid.
