Online booking specialists Stopford have delivered 40 free appointment booking systems to UK registration services as they look to help manage telephone death registrations during COVID-19.

Based in Chester’s Steam Mill, Stopford have been working closely with registrars across the UK since the beginning of lockdown to assist registration services respond to the challenges created by Coronavirus; including the sudden transition to telephone appointments and the increasing demand for death registrations.

In response, the Chester SME launched a free appointment system designed to best enable online booking for telephone appointments based on the latest requirements and prevent a serious backlog from those trying to register a loved one’s passing.

The launch of the free system has proven to be successful, with waiting times for an appointment in some of the most seriously affected areas down to only 2-3 days, ensuring the service can minimise any potential backlog and continue to serve their residents quickly.

Since April, over 20 systems have gone live and another 20 have since reached the development phase.

Stopford’s Managing Director, Paul McCloskey, had this to say:

“Registrars are under an incredible amount of pressure right now and I think it’s important to do our bit wherever possible. We’re proud to have managed to deliver a number of systems in such a short space of time and assist registration services in adapting to the big changes they’ve experienced.”

Stopford have promised to continue to offer on-going support to registration services through free updates and training as guidance continues to develop.
