Lovingly Artisan Bakery, based in Kendal, in the Lakes and Altrincham, Manchester, has achieved Green Small Business accreditation for the first time, helping to reduce its impact on the planet.

Green Small Business accreditation is recognised as the leading environmental certification scheme for the UK’s small businesses and is a proven form of environmental accreditation that demonstrates best practice, sustainable working, and evidences an individual businesses green credentials.

As business owners Aidan and Catherine recognised the impact their business had on the environment and as a result they felt that it was important to do something about it in terms of the way they operated the business.

They recognised their responsibility to manage the businesses environmental impacts carefully and as a result have fully committed to reducing that impact. As a result they have established an action plan, and which sets out how they will improve their businesses overall environmental performance. This now forms a major part of their long-term business planning, particularly with sourcing of ingredients, packaging, equipment procurement, waste products, energy use and product distribution.

Each year accreditation is only granted to those businesses who are able to demonstrate a deep-seated commitment to continually meeting the requirements of the Green Small Business standard. As a result, the scheme is widely accepted as a benchmark for small businesses wanting to do their bit and help reduce their impact on the planet.

Aidan and Catherine, co-owners of Lovingly Artisan Bakery commented:

"We are delighted to have achieved Green Small Business accreditation for the first time. The process is straightforward and as such it’s a good starting point for businesses who want to make changes in the way they do things. By working with Green Small Business we have put together an easy to manage environmental action plan to help us achieve manageable and achievable reduction targets. We would encourage any business that is serious about changing the way it operates to sign up to the scheme and start to make a difference."
