Kendal’s Ginger Bakers, owned by Lisa Smith, discovered this afternoon (Tuesday) that the Cumbrian based cake bakery has picked up three new Great Taste awards.

This year in the region of 14,113 product entries were sent in to be judged and less than two percent of those were awarded the top, three-star rating. Awards were also made at two-star level to 1,138 products, and 4,027 attained a one-star rating.

Ginger Bakers collected a 1-star Great Taste award for their Luxury Brandy and Orange Mince Pies, their Lemon, Pistachio and Ginger Blondie and their Gin, Clementine and Cranberry Fruit Cake, bringing their total tally up to 18 Great Taste awards won since 2006.

Judging was a little different this year as a result of Covid-19, but despite the challenges that has presented the 355 judges diligently carried out their work to the same exacting standards seen in previous years, with entries assessed at 86 socially judging sessions at four venues throughout the summer.

The three-star products will now be re-judged to determine the winner of the regional awards and the supreme champion, which will be announced on October 17th. The complete list of one-, two- and three-star winners is available here.

Lisa Smith, owner of Ginger Bakers, said:

“Great Taste awards some of the most sought-after food and drink awards, because they highlight truly outstanding products and demonstrate to consumers that the products lucky enough to win an award have received a reliable stamp of approval. Winning an award like this in the aftermath of the last 18 months is a huge boost to us all, not only that it’s hugely important as winning can open all sorts of potential business opportunities for a family business like ours."
