Colleagues at Central England Co-operative Brandhall celebrate Charity Advocate of the Year success at annual Leading Brilliance Awards

Central England Co-operative celebrated its highest performing colleagues at its Leading Brilliance Awards at the Hyatt Hotel in Birmingham.


The award for Charity Advocate of the Year went to Brandhall Retail, Oldbury. The store has continuous fundraising activity for the corporate charity.


Jamie Joyce, Manager at the store said:

"We are all really pleased at winning the award and it has made us want to push harder this year for more charity events. It was great to meet all the finalists at the awards and we were all winners on the night."


Giving recognition to the Society’s brightest stars, the event is to celebrate outstanding achievement, service and commitment to the values of Central England Co-operative, and its place as a retailer that benefits the lives of those in its local areas. The co-op movement is one of community support and through its activities for members, Community Dividend fund, Education Initiatives and charity support, amongst others, Central England Co-operative is one that really strives to be the community retailer of choice.


The other brightest stars of the evening were;

  • Apprentice of the Year – Bradley Sims, Hallwood Road, Kettering
  • Learner of the Year – Duncan Staniforth, Property
  • Bloom Award – Steve Johnson, Distribution
  • Community Advocate – Debbie Bishop, Gorleston on Sea Funeral Home
  • Support Team of the Year – Loss Prevention Team, Risk & Compliance
  • Trading Team of the Year – Wisbech Travel
  • Leader of the Year – Niki Roberts, Fitzwilliam Street Funeral Home
  • Colleague of the Year – Arthur Bedford, Sawtry Retail

  • A Special Achievement Award was given to Tony Carroll, who retired the same week from his position as Deputy Chief Executive. Tony has been a part of the co-operative movement for 42 years and is now planning his retirement.
