National property and construction consultancy Wakemans has completed work on two Travelodge projects in Kent with an overall value of almost £14.5million.

Supporting the UK’s first budget hotel chain’s ongoing expansion programme, Wakemans acted as tenant’s agent on new hotels in Gravesend and Dover.

Wakemans Senior Associate Director Nigel Himpson said:

“We’re delighted to have assisted Travelodge in the development of these two new Kent hotel properties, which are integral to its expansion strategy in the South East and will provide a boost for the regional economy whilst also supporting tourism.”

The £5.5 million hotel in Gravesend is located on the edge of town, close to the A2, and enjoys easy transport links to central London. It also offers a convenient stop off for travellers planning an overnight stay on the way to Dover or the Eurotunnel.

Adjacent to a Toby Carvery restaurant and close to the Cyclopark multi-sport activity centre, the 61-bedroom, four storey hotel is a 15-minute car journey from Bluewater Shopping Centre.

The new £9 million hotel in Dover town centre also incorporates an on-site Bar Café restaurant serving breakfast and evening meals. It is located in the south-east corner of the 120,000 sq. ft. St James scheme, a £53million retail and leisure development featuring a six-screen cinema plus restaurants and cafés.

Five minutes by car from the Port of Dover, the 108-bedroom Dover Travelodge is ideally located for holidaymakers looking for a stop-over before heading to Europe.

Tony O’Brien, Travelodge Property Director said:

“We are delighted to have worked with Wakemans to open our first Travelodge hotels in Dover and Gravesend. Kent is key growth area for Travelodge. The county’s reputation as a great short break destination is flourishing and attracting record visitor numbers. However, there is still a shortage of branded budget accommodation across Kent. Therefore our two new hotels will certainly help attract visitors and boost the local economy.”
