South West Women in Construction (SWWIC) and its chair, Glayne Price were the recipients of the prestigious John Laurence Special Contribution award at the 18th Michelmores Property Awards held virtually on 12 November. The Awards celebrate the very best South West property and construction schemes, as well as the teams involved in them. The John Laurence Special Contribution Award is given to an individual or organisation in recognition of their outstanding work for and influence on the industry. This year, the judges felt that the Award should be given to not one, but two recipients, in recognition of their commitment to the industry.

Glayne Price, director and shareholder at LHC Design, was recognised for inspiring others in the industry and her incredible career journey so far. Joining LHC as a junior architectural technician she has continued to rise through the ranks, achieving her chartered status, before being named a director and shareholder of LHC Design. As chair of SWWIC, Glayne is pivotal to the organisation's work to increase diversity in the sector, raise money for charity and to encourage and inspire young girls to consider construction as a career.

In her award acceptance speech Glayne Price said:

"I am absolutely delighted and humbled to accept this award. I'd like to thank all those who’ve given me the opportunities, the support and mentoring throughout my career.

"There are many women out there doing an amazing job within our industry. I've been in a fortunate position at LHC Design because they review on ability and capability and I'd like to think that the construction sector is getting better at doing this. SWWIC has also been an important part of my career - let's keep breaking this glass ceiling!"

Commenting on this year's winners, Emma Honey, Head of Real Estate at Michelmores LLP said:

"The South West’s property and construction industry has shown itself to be a force to be reckoned with during these last eight months. We have all experienced a period of unprecedented change and uncertainty in our personal and professional lives – yet our industry and those working within it are showing great resilience. There has never been a better time to celebrate what is great about the South West’s property and construction industry and both Glayne and SWWIC are pivotal to that success. My heartfelt gratitude to Glayne and SWWIC for everything they do to help inspire and continue to improve our sector, year on year. Many congratulations to two exceptional and very worthy winners."
