Something big has just happened at the Mailbox!

Something which promises to make the iconic building a hive of activity once more, and bring footfall and revenue to local businesses.

The entire ground floor of the Mailbox has been completely stripped out and redeveloped as an open co-working environment, transforming 50,000sq ft of failing retail into state-of-the-art working spaces. With it’s fashionable surroundings and famous location, you couldn’t ask for a more iconic business spot.

The potential impact of this on the local restaurants and bars is massive, and for retail too; as Mark Dixon of IWG (Spaces brand CEO) says:

“We’re delighted to be partnering with the Mailbox to serve the needs of the thriving local business community. Introducing workspaces into retail centres helps revitalise spaces, generate economic activity and create better solutions which support hybrid working.”

Following the acquisition in December 2019 by M7 Real Estates, local Design & fit-out contractor Rhino Interiors Group was selected to work in close co-operation with Weedons architects, and Cundalls engineering consultancy, to develop the interior scheme and then deliver on a very compressed timescale.

The Spaces brand has a consistent look across all their sites and the furniture installed is a mix of American and European. The design incorporates a muted and sophisticated colour pallet, coupled with a wide array of indoor plants and stylish wooden furniture to create a welcoming and refreshing environment. Offering a variety of settings, such as individual working pods, office spaces for larger groups or companies, collaboration and break out areas, as well as an enclosed winter garden, there’s a great range of workspace to choose from.

Rhino Interiors Senior Project Director, Grant Clarke commented

“This was an incredibly challenging and complex project. But whilst the programme we worked to was incredibly tight, the entire project team right down to the subcontractors worked amazingly well to deliver this fantastic project. And I’m happy to say, the client is thrilled with the results.”

Some of the space is already spoken for with occupiers taking up residence recently. It’s an inspiring transformation of the Mailbox, putting it front and centre in the Birmingham business scene.
