One of the legacies of 2020 will be the increased use on online platforms to interact with your colleagues, and how this impacts the effectiveness of your team working together. Before COVID struck, the importance of getting out of the office to talk about anything but work was stressed with successful businesses prioritising events, periodically, for employees to meet in a non-office-based environment for some rest and relaxation, while getting to know each other better.

In the current world, this is an impossible challenge, the opportunity to get everyone back in the office to interact ‘normally’ would be grasped with both hands by most employees and bosses alike! The good folk whose events businesses are on indefinite hold are re-writing the virtual script, with everything from life drawing to pub quizzes to wine tasting to magic shows and many more.

Food Sorcery, Cookery School based in Didsbury, South Manchester have designed a number of meals in a box that they distribute to any UK Mainland addresses before their chefs and host guide the virtual guests through creating a delicious meal together. For an enjoyable online experience, it’s key that there is the ability for interaction between the attendees and host team, unlike many online events where there is just a face on the screen presenting, with a cooking event the hosts want to make sure the pace of the instruction is optimum, questions are promptly answered and vitally any near disasters recovered.

These online Dinner Parties or Team Meals Out are proving popular – clients pick from a selection of carefully designed menus. The ingredient boxes have between 20 and 30 elements, enough to feed two people and are delivered to the multiple addresses in advance of the class, as is a kit list to make sure everyone is ready to cook. The guests then have the delight of working together and sharing in each other’s success and occasional disasters. The net result is highly satisfactory for the organiser – they have hosted an event that is not work focussed, their team have laughed together and learnt a new skill together while feeding themselves and their other half… ’virtually’ perfect!
