With more than a billion people welcoming the Year of the Pig. In the meantime, freight forwarders all around the world wondered how not to make a pig’s ear of the ingoing projects to China.

Tuscor Lloyds, the Manchester based logistics company, seems to have an answer to these concerns. Read about their recent project of 8 reels going to Yantai around this tricky part of the year.

‘Our customer did not hesitate to contact us when it came to this high priority OOG project for the shipbuilding industry. Due to our long-lasting relationship, they knew we were the right people to provide custom-tailored solutions and assure the cargo arrives before public holiday celebrations. Thanks to 25 years of experience, our specialists managed to prepare customized planning to avoid any interruptions caused by Chinese New Year, which disturbs all traffic in China for weeks.’ – Luke Wrench, Logistics Specialist at Tuscor Lloyds

These eight reels of steel wire rope made for a challenging cargo. When transporting oversized machinery and equipment, tiny details can decide whether the project is successful. In this case, the first problem laid in the wires which were unevenly wrapped around the reels. Due to irregular weight distribution of the cargo, the team had to come up with a bespoke strategy to load the reels on flat racks. Additionally, the port in Yantai did not provide equipment required to lift the reels and an alternative route was needed to deliver them to the client just before the New Year Celebrations. This was probably the most challenging part of the project.

In this situation any delays would have incurred large storage charges, therefore having alternative options for each part of the planning was an essential part of our strategy. An experienced team of specialists was organized to load the cargo off centre on the flat racks, despite the challenge of the tricky weight distribution. Tuscor Lloyds elected an alternative port to ensure the specialized cranes were available, and after shipping to Qingdao, the reels were transported by truck to the consignee’s door in Yantai - without increasing the cost to the customer. Thanks to the detailed planning and being in constant contact with the agent in China, the team ensured that cargo was customs cleared just in time to arrive before the Dragon dance started and China was deluged with colourful costumes.
