Award-winning Bristol communications consultancy JBP is offering budding public relations professionals the opportunity to get their first foot on the industry ladder.

As well as gaining experience working with national and international clients, successful applicants to the paid internship scheme will also have the opportunity to spend time in the firm’s Westminster office.

The three-month scheme, which offers valuable grounding in three core areas: public relations, public policy and stakeholder relations, is ideal for recent graduates, college leavers or even those simply seeking a career change.

“While we’re not necessarily searching for candidates with previous PR experience, a passion for the news media and politics is essential,” said Chris Lawrance, managing director at JBP.

He continued:

“It’s vital for us as a business to attract the best talent to support our growth and our staff’s professional development. This scheme not only offers a taste of all areas of our business, but each intern will also be assigned a mentor to help them on their journey. As a business fully committed to equal opportunities the scheme has no pre-requisites and I’d encourage people from all walks of life to apply, even if you’re simply considering a career change.”

Alex Taylor started her career as an intern at JBP three years ago, progressing to her current position as account manager working with clients including First West of England.

She said:

“JBP offers the unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience in different types of communications across a fantastic range of sectors. There’s no such thing as a ‘tea & coffee’ intern here - from day one you’re working on clients in PR, stakeholder engagement, reputational management and more. The work is fast-paced and varied by nature with no two days the same and I would urge anyone with an interest in strategic communications to apply for our next scheme.”

JBP, which recently celebrated its 35th anniversary, is one of the UK’s leading PR, stakeholder engagement and public affairs consultancies.

Its clients include CHEP, E.ON, First Bus, National Grid, Palletways, SodaStream and the UK Vaping Industry Association.
