Manufacturing innovation for new product

A project that Hepworth’s RIM Moulding division has been working on for some time is being unveiled at Elevate 2018, ExCel London, the UK's largest physical activity trade exhibition for gym operators, sports clubs, sports scientists and healthcare professionals etc.

The new GRYPiT® gym equipment handles have been designed and developed to deliver optimum positioning between the arms and hands during training on cable equipment and have been manufactured in a resilient, hygienic polymer to deliver safe, comfortable and hygienic training without any need for gloves.

The major complexity with moulding these handles is locating the cable correctly. The cable is inserted and suspended in the tool and resin is moulded around it, strongly adhering to the cable thereby removing the requirement for the post-assembly process needed to attach the cable to the handle.

Hepworth has been working on this new manufacturing process for some months, together with input from Grypit and their tool makers. One issue that had to be overcome was ensuring that the resin stuck to the cable only in specified locations; after a number of development runs Hepworth has managed to resolve the problem.

“It has been a fascinating project to work on”

said Tom Dunkley, Technical Sales Manager for Hepworth’s RIM division, continuing
“the technical difficulties and problem solving has made this a challenging but very enjoyable project. The new cable products are a great new addition what already is an excellent range of equipment. We look forward to continuing working with Grypit".
