Town Hall Symphony Hall has appointed Richard Loftus as their new Director of Sales and Marketing.

Richard joins THSH from Oxford New Theatre where he was the Senior Sales and Marketing Manager.

During his time at Oxford New Theatre, Richard programmed the venue's first ticketed live music performances in the Piano Bar and established a year-long partnership with music therapy charity, Soundabout.

At twenty nine, Richard’s career in arts marketing encompasses both the UK’s second largest theatre operator and the UK's largest theatre owner/operator and a multi award-winning theatre production group.

In that time, he has been actively involved in developing and implementing Business Strategies incorporating increased ticket sales, increased revenue and community engagement.

Taking on the newly created role of Director of Sales and Marketing, Richard will take responsibility for THSH’s box office, marketing and audience development functions, and also form part of the senior management team.

Speaking about his new role at THSH Richard said:

"I am thrilled to join the team at THSH, in a city which boasts a long and proud musical history.

My introduction to classical music was in 1998 when Luciano Pavarotti sang Viva Forever with the Spice Girls.

Just like that collaboration, which merged classical with pop, Town Hall and Symphony Hall present a diverse programme of artistic and commercial product and I am thrilled to be taking up post as Director of Sales and Marketing.

My first visit to Birmingham's Town Hall was for a recital by Christopher Park earlier this year.

The Leonard Bernstein Award-winning German pianist who, like me, is yet to turn 30, was described after that performance by a local blog as "florid, light, jaunty and sombre."

The thoroughly entertaining performance prompted me to book another from the ECHO rising star series later in the year, and with tickets for as little as £12.50 I would encourage others to see the talented new generation of classical musicians coming through Birmingham's best cultural concert venues.”
