The Headland Hotel & Spa in Newquay is celebrating a record Christmas and New Year with revenue significantly up. Overall, income for 2017 showed a massive year on year increase.

Contributing to the December figures were 1017 people who attended six party nights, three weddings and even the 56 dogs who stayed between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day! To cater for the happy throng, the kitchen team’s culinary output included 2000 roast potatoes, 900 king prawns and 700 turkey portions.

“It was an extremely busy festive period, but our staff rose to the challenge magnificently and we’re delighted with the results,” said Managing Director Darryl Reburn. “As a business, we believe reinvestment is key to ongoing success and we’re always looking at ways to improve and upgrade what we offer. We’ve got some very exciting development plans in place – not least the £6m Aquatic Centre which will open in 2019, offering five pools - including a 25m training pool. Construction is well underway and, once complete, will be a state-of-the-art facility that residents and non-residents will be able to enjoy.”

Owners Carolyn and John Armstrong bought The Headland in 1979. At the time the roof leaked and many parts of the hotel were in serious need of modernisation.

“There were a lot of initial problems but, with hard work and commitment, the Armstrongs refurbished the hotel and ensured it became the beacon of excellence it is today,” said Darryl. “2017 was an outstanding year for us in many respects. Far from resting on our laurels, though, we’re determined 2018 will be even better.”
