The newly relaunched restaurant, The Curious Kitchen, has announced that it has been awarded two AA Rosettes in recognition of the high quality of its food.

The AA Inspector was very impressed with the new menu showcasing the skills of the team of chefs led by executive head chef Marc Payne.

Marc’s vision of bringing back traditional techniques such as smoking, curing and pickling to ensure all ingredients on the menu are homemade, is proving incredibly popular with diners. From infused mayonnaise to cured or smoked meats and fish, these much-loved practices bring out the best of the local produce and allow diners to experience delicious food.

The restaurant, at the 4 AA star Aztec Hotel and Spa, had previously held one AA Rosette and being awarded a second rosette is testament to the dedication, inspiration and hard work of the whole team.

The AA Inspector commented:

“This was a well-balanced menu showing sound technical skill from the kitchen team. Of all my visits to the hotel this was the best showing by some margin. The accuracy of cooking along with the balance of flavours all exceeded the current one AA Rosette Award in place.”

To gain two AA Rosettes a restaurant must demonstrate not only good quality ingredients and food prepared with care, understanding and skill, but also higher standards and better consistency than a one rosette restaurant, a greater precision in the cooking and obvious attention to the selection of quality ingredients.

Marc Payne, executive head chef, said:

“It has been my ambition to create a menu worthy of two AA Rosettes and I am so proud of my team who have supported my vision and helped develop the incredible dishes we serve at The Curious Kitchen. Our diners experience the very best of ingredients blended to create plates that truly taste as good as they look. We believe that each time you dine out it should be an occasion and by using the traditional techniques we are doing our utmost to ensure that exquisite flavours are at the forefront of any visit.”

Gareth Ireland, general manager of the Aztec Hotel and Spa, added:

“Over the last two years we have completely transformed our restaurant – from the décor right through to the menu. Receiving our second Rosette, an award that is judged by industry experts, really highlights how far we have come. I am so delighted for the team in The Curious Kitchen who all work tirelessly to produce this exquisite level of dining experience.”

The Curious Kitchen combines rustic design with contemporary furnishings and artwork depicting the local area. The al fresco terrace offers a beautiful outdoor dining option and the Garden Room is perfect for private dining events for up to 24 people.
