The school summer break is fast approaching and Weston-super-Mare's Grand Pier is gearing up to spread some sunshine of its own with a host of holiday activities.

While children might be delighted that school's out, parents may be scratching their heads wondering how to keep the youngsters occupied.

They need look no further than the iconic seafront attraction, which has a number of special activities and events lined up to ensure it will be a funshine holiday destination, whatever the weather.

Every Friday during the summer holidays, the Pier will host its Sunset Sessions. From 7pm, visitors can buy an Unlimited Ride Wristband for just £7.50 and all the rides and attractions will stay open until 10pm.

There's also plenty going on during the day to keep children occupied.

Every Monday, between 12 noon and 1pm, the Pier will become the Circus Coast, offering children the chance to learn a range of traditional 'Big Top' skills.

The FREE, one-hour workshops will cover activities such as diabolo, ball juggling, club juggling, devil stick, unicycling, pot stilts, stilt walking, ribbon dancing and more.

The Circus Coast workshops take place every Monday between 30 July and 27 August inclusive.

Every Wednesday, between 25 July and 29 August inclusive, will be Dinosaur Day, when Titch, the animatronic monster, will be stomping around between 12pm and 1pm, posing for pictures with those brave enough to get close, in another FREE summer event.

Also, throughout the summer, until 2 September, visitors will be able to have their photos taken alongside Giggles, the clown-themed Gromit sculpture which is part of the Gromit Unleashed 2 fund-raising trail, in aid of the Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal.

Tim Moyle, General Manager of the Grand Pier, said:

"2018 marks the 250th anniversary of the circus, and we thought we would celebrate that by offering free sessions to let our younger visitors try their hand at some popular circus skills.

"It also links in with our sponsorship of The Grand Appeal, because our Gromit statue has been designed with a clown theme.

"Whether you're a youngster enjoying the long school summer holidays, or a 'big kid', we're proud of the fact that we've got something to offer visitors of all ages, whether you want the latest video and arcade thrills, or a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk and an afternoon tea while admiring the spectacular views.

"We know it can be a struggle for parents and carers to occupy youngsters during the summer holidays, so our free activities will hopefully offer a huge helping hand and will also help spread plenty of summer smiles."

There's a further reason to smile, too, because between now and 1 September, visitors who buy an Unlimited Ride Wristband at the Pier will be able to claim another one, absolutely free, between 1 October and 1 December (not including the North Somerset October half-term school holidays).

All they have to do is present their original receipt for the wristband they purchase before 1 September, to the retail shop. (Not to be used in conjunction with any other offer).
