In recent weeks Chapman Bags, one of Britain’s only authentic manufacturers of bags, luggage and accessories, has teamed up with Michelin starred chef Kevin Tickle.

Tickle head chef at the Lake District’s newest foodie destination the Forest Side, Grasmere, made the journey to Harraby, Carlisle, the Cumbrian home of Chapman Bags, where he met up with CEO Daniel Chamier. The pair quickly discovered a shared affinity for all things Cumbrian, you might say they hit it off and inevitably talk turned towards, the great outdoors, food and bags.

Kevin didn’t hesitate when Daniel asked him if he would consider becoming a brand ambassador for the top flight Cumbrian brand, especially when they agreed to create a bespoke foraging bag for the top chef.

Kevin’s been foraging for ingredients in the Cumbrian landscape since childhood, however, there is one thing that has hampered Kevin’s forays over the years and that is being able to carry all his clobber about.

As luck, would have it, Daniel sitting at the helm of one of the world’s leading manufacturers of hand crafted canvas, leather and tweed bags likes a bit of a challenge.

Chapman’s Harraby team quickly took up the gauntlet and set about creating a unique foraging bag to meet Kevin’s exacting requirements.

Reassuringly each Chapman bag is handmade from start to finish, just like a Saville Row suit. The material for each bag is hand cut using traditional patterns. The material pieces are then machined, stitched, crafted and shaped by hand, and then checked and signed off individually.

Kevin was immediately taken by the quality of the finished product. Everything he required of the bag featured; a washable lining, the perfect home for a tickled trout or two and internal pockets for bits and bobs; including all the tools of the foraging trade.

The Chapman team surpassed themselves, but then that’s not surprising as their covetable creations have been seen gracing some very famous shoulders over the years.

Kevin Tickle, Forest Side’s head chef, said: "working with an innovative Cumbrian company has been a real pleasure. You can clearly see from what they produce that they believe in what they do… that’s something I can readily relate to. Their products make the best use quality British materials and represent the very best in bespoke British manufacturing. Chapman stand apart because they take time producing everything they create. I’m looking forward to a long and fruitful collaboration."

Daniel Chamier Chapman’s CEO, said: "when we met Kevin we discovered that world class cuisine and bag making have a good deal in common; we both select, prepare, transform, finish and present high quality ingredients, with an exceptional end product; except you can’t eat our bags!"
