Master of Wine Andrew Stewart from Stewart Wines in Bristol will be hosting a masterclass at a Wine, Beer & Cider Festival in North Somerset this September (2017).

Andrew will be at The White Hart in Weston in Gordano for the event on September 1 and 2 and will be taking a Rhône Valley Wine Masterclass on the Saturday evening.

Myles Angell, Manager at The White Hart, explained:

Andrew is an expert in his field and is a Master of Wine (MW), which is a highly sought after qualification, to the extent that there are still only about 350 in the world. People like Jancis Robinson have this badge, so it’s highly prestigious and it’s wonderful he’ll be able to join us during the event.

“He is going to perform a masterclass in our Palio Room at around 6pm on the Saturday, September 2. The maximum number of delegates will be 18 and the cost £10 per head.

“Six wines will be available for attendees to try at the masterclass and they include: Côtes-du-Rhône Villages ‘Laudun’ 2014 Chateau de Bord, Gigondas ‘la Marasque’ 2013 Brotte and Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2013 Domaine Barville.”

The festival, which will take place in The White Hart’s large, all-weather garden, complete with its tepee and fire pit, includes live music throughout, as well as food and drink. The pub will be showcasing local beers and ciders and wines from independent suppliers too.

Myles added: “The event runs from 5pm until 11pm on Friday, September 1 and from 2pm until 11pm on Saturday, September 2. Tickets, priced £10 each, include entrance, live music throughout the day and evening, free transport to and from Clevedon and Portishead on the Venga bus and a welcome drink coupon. One ticket covers both days and re-admittance at any time during the event is fine.

“We’ll also have two other main bars open and our open-air pizza kitchen will be serving as usual. To add to all this, we’ll have a big pan of chicken and chorizo paella on the Friday evening and a hog roast on the Saturday and the normal restaurant menu will be available too.Tickets can be purchased from us here at The White Hart and, also, from our sister bar and tapas restaurant, Venga in Portishead.”

The White Hart’s owners Mike and Chris Yeatman decided to take on and renovate the pub in 2015 after it had been closed for two years.

The couple, who also own and run Venga, and their 30-strong team wanted to create a unique experience for visitors and diners and have developed an outside garden area that includes a large central tepee with fire pit, a rum shack as well as the open-air pizzeria kitchen.

“We’ve hosted lots of similar events in our garden before and they have always been a huge success. It promises to be a great atmosphere and we’ve seven wonderful bands playing throughout the weekend too. It’s not just wine either, we’ll have a beer and cider tent too and a gin stall.

“We advise local guests to be drink aware and not to drive. Our Venga Bus will be available for free collections and drop offs to Clevedon and Portishead.”

The White Hart’s Wine, Beer & Cider Festival takes place on Friday, September 1 and Saturday, September 2 and tickets are priced £10 each.
