A Tamworth fitness centre has won a top award in recognition of its unique approach to helping people of all ages and abilities to achieve their fitness goals.
Less than a year since opening its doors, The Fitness Junction in Fazeley has been voted Leisure Business of the Year in the 2016 Tamworth Business and Community Awards.
It beat some tough competition in the form of longstanding Tamworth companies including Daytona Motorsport, Namco Funscape, The Fitness Hub and Midlands Yoga to secure the top title.
The award is testament to the hard work that has gone into turning an empty canalside unit into a state-of-the-art fitness centre offering personal training, daily classes and cutting edge equipment.
The Fitness Junction has been set up by personal trainers Simon McNeilly, Andy Dolan and Keith Clarke, together with Tamworth businessman Kyle Raffo, who together invested £100,000 in their vision for an alternative gym where people can make positive and sustainable lifestyle changes.
Hundreds of people now attend the exclusive members-only facility in Tolsons Mill, where the focus is on functional training, with not a treadmill in sight.
Winners were revealed at a prestigious awards ceremony at Drayton Manor Park on Friday, November 4. The event was compered by well-known TV and radio personality Paul Ross, together with Tamworth’s own radio producer, Alex Farrell.
Collecting the award on behalf of the Fitness Junction team, Kyle said: “To have won this award within 12 months of opening is just amazing and we are all delighted that our unique offering has been given the town’s seal of approval.
“We now have brand new changing rooms and a members’ lounge area and have also launched a fitness retreat in the Cotswolds. We will soon be working with professional boxers to offer professional training, so we have lots of things taking place to develop the business further.”
Simon said: “We are delighted to have won this award. We have created something really special here at The Fitness Junction. We provide the whole package of advice and support to help people make the behavioural changes needed to accomplish their goals. We also have a very relaxed, friendly and supportive atmosphere; everyone is welcome, and the award is testament to that.

Now in its second year, the Tamworth Business and Community Awards was set up to recognise, reward and thank the people and companies who make Tamworth a good place to live and work.
