Wesleyan, the specialist financial mutual, has topped an independent survey of with profits funds.

The report by Barnett Waddingham, the UK's largest provider of actuarial, administration and consultancy services, ranked 46 with profits funds across 20 firms and found Wesleyan’s was top rated for investment return in 2016.

It showed growth on the Wesleyan with profit fund was 16.5% in 2016, compared to an average of 12.65%. Equities and property were the top performing assets within the Wesleyan with profit fund, with growth of 19.52% and 16.57% respectively.

The report stated:

“The key driver for overall return across most firms has been stock selection. This continues to back our opinion that not all asset managers are created equally – having the right manager and challenging performance targets is critical to producing outperformance.”

Robert Vaudry, Managing Director of Investments at Wesleyan, said:

“With profits products continue to be a key offering from Wesleyan and remain popular with customers looking for medium-risk, long-term investments.

The with profits fund is the largest of the Wesleyan funds and for it to be recognised by an independent report as the best in its class is testament to the skill and experience we have in our fund management team here in Birmingham.

Wesleyan’s long term approach is key to our investment success and allows us to make decisions in the best interests of our customers, rather than react to the short-term whims of the markets.”
