Top rankings in legal guides for Stephens Scown

One of the South West’s most successful law firms has received top ranking in independent guides to the legal profession, Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners, which were both released this week.


Stephens Scown LLP, which has offices in Exeter, St Austell and Truro received band 1 ranking in four sections of both Chambers and Legal 500. Nine of its lawyers received band 1 ranking in Chambers and two were also highlighted as leading lawyers by Legal 500.


The firm’s top rankings came in the agriculture, corporate, family and private wealth law sections of Chambers. In Legal 500 the top rankings were for the family, employment, corporate and commercial litigation teams.


Lawyers who received Band 1 status in Chambers include Liz Allen and Mark Chanter from the family team, James Keliher a corporate partner, disputes expert Phil Gregory and Graham Murdoch and Phil Reed, who are both private client specialists. A trio of partners in the firm’s rural team also received top ranking: Susie Murray, Richard Baker and Kate Theophilus.


Liz Allen and Kate Theophilus were also singled out as leading lawyers by Legal 500.


Both guides are independent and complied based on feedback from clients and other professionals. Comments about Stephens Scown include a client who said of the firm’s corporate team: "they are very client-focused and put the hours and travelling in to accommodate tight deadlines."
