Manchester’s Helen Wong – often the first port of call for the city’s SMEs, high net worth individuals and entrepreneurs on corporate and commercial law – will be a keynote speaker at this year’s Economics of Greater Manchester conference.

Helen, partner at leading law firm Clarke Willmott LLP, will be addressing the pro-Manchester-hosted event on October 18, talking about the legal issues arising out of Brexit and steps on how to mitigate for any Brexit-related risk.

Said Helen, a recipient of an MBE in 2014, author of Doing Business After Brexit: A Practical Guide to the Legal Issues:

“My message is to prepare for Brexit or prepare to fail. It will affect all size and sectors of business.

“I'm helping clients with a mind-map on how to navigate in these uncertain times to plan ahead to ensure their businesses are financially robust enough to cope with the extra costs and barriers to trade they are likely to encounter.”

With the city in the process of updating its industrial strategy and implementation plans, the conference will look at the prospects for the local economy amid fears that ‘bad Brexit’ could lead to a slowdown in investment.

Added Helen, an entrepreneur herself – co-owner of the award-winning Sweet Mandarin restaurant in Manchester and British sauce manufacturer:

“It is important we take the necessary steps for the worst-case scenario of ‘no deal’ as this will impact business, people and our lives as we know it today.”

The Economics of Greater Manchester conference, now in its fourth year, will be held at the Lowry Hotel and cover topics including Brexit, employment, inclusive growth, housing, commercial real estate.
