Fletchers Solicitors, the UK’s leading medical negligence and serious injury law firm, has raised an impressive £5082 for Big Change Manchester to support the city’s homeless community.

15 members of the Manchester-based team completed the Manchester Half Marathon on Sunday 15 October 2017 to raise the commendable sum.

The money raised from the event will be used to help fund the Big Change services and ensure that those living on the streets or in temporary accommodation continue to receive the necessary support they need.

The firm, which now has an office based in Manchester, pledged to support the charity after becoming concerned by the sharp rise in homelessness in Manchester, particularly during the past year.

Homeless charity, Shelter, recently revealed that the number of people living on the streets or in temporary accommodation has risen by 33% since June last year.

Over the next year, all fundraising efforts made by staff members located at the Manchester office will be dedicated to Big Change.

Ed Fletcher, CEO of Fletchers Solicitors, said:

“The rising number of people who are being forced to sleep rough in Manchester is truly shocking and heartbreaking. For us at Fletchers Solicitors, this is not something that we could simply ignore or pass by on our daily commute to the office. We feel very strongly about helping in any way that we can to end the homeless crisis and ensure that everyone has a safe, warm and stable roof over their heads.

This is why we have pledged our support to Big Change. The charity’s philosophy fits in perfectly with our own values, and its work makes a real difference to many people’s lives. As a business that aims to help rebuild the lives of those who have suffered life changing events, supporting Big Change is a way that we can extend our helping hand and make a real change.”

Eleanor Watts, area manager at Big Change, said:

“Fletchers Solicitors’ support is a fantastic example of how businesses can get involved in their local community to help bring an end to homelessness across the country. The money raised from the Half Marathon will really help us support the region’s homeless community.

Big Change supports over 20 charities to give them the help they desperately need. Without our help, many charities would not be able to continue their vital work. From funding housing deposits to even just bus tickets, each donation makes a huge difference.”
