Members of the Beech Hall School cohort have attended a prestigious parliamentary reception at the Palace of Westminster, following the school’s community partnership with leading pharmaceutical brand, Pfizer UK.

A trio of budding-scientists and the school’s headmaster, James Allen attended the Houses of Parliament after they were cordially invited by MP Crispin Blunt, the sponsor of the ‘Science in a Box’ event, Pfizer’s award-winning initiative. The interactive programme brings the creation of medicine to life with puzzles, board games and quizzes, inspiring and supporting the future generations of scientists.

The excited pupils, Adam Leach (13), Oliver Lyons (13) and Isobel Rayworth (14), were selected by the school based on their attitude to learning grades, overall attendance and their interest in the project.

Joining representatives from Government, parliament, educational institutions and other interested organisations, the school celebrated the importance of science, technology, engineering and maths education (STEM) and the efforts made to encourage young people to pursue a career in the subjects.

During the insightful event, a range of speakers from the political and educational communities each shared an insight into the importance of STEM in the education industry and to the economy. Following the speeches, the Beech Hall team engaged with other attendees to share their passions and experiences in the world of STEM.

James Allen Headmaster explains:

“We were honoured to have been invited to the Houses of Parliament after our wonderful community partnership with Pfizer. The pupils have thoroughly enjoyed engaging in STEM activities, which has been both academically challenging and rewarding.

“We want to prepare our pupils not only for their further education, but for their future careers. It’s important that children are engaged and enthused by STEM subjects as they offer many opportunities for transferable skills.”
