Lancashire employers now have access to a wealth of talent, innovation and enthusiasm to help give their business a boost following Covid-19.

The Government’s pioneering new T Level qualifications have been introduced and Burnley College Sixth Form Centre – the Number 1 College in England* – is at the vanguard of ensuring both students and employers alike can benefit from the new way of learning.

The College is already recruiting high-calibre students to its Science and Healthcare Science T Level courses starting this autumn and is preparing to launch further T Level qualifications in 2022 in:

Construction

  • Surveying and Design for Construction and the Built Environment
  • Electro Technical Engineering
  • Plumbing

Engineering

  • Design and Development for Engineering and Manufacturing
  • Engineering, Manufacturing, Processing and Control

Digital

  • Design and Development

Education

  • Early Years Education and Childcare
  • Assisting Teaching.

T Levels were introduced by the Government in 2020 to allow students aged 16-18 an alternative route to A Levels, Vocational study or an Apprenticeship following GCSEs. They combine classroom, laboratory or workshop learning with at least 45 days’ industry placement with an employer, where students can put their skills and knowledge to use, and are equivalent to A Levels or an Advanced Vocational qualification on completion.

Until July 2022, employers accepting a student on an industry placement can claim £1,000 in Government funding.

Paul Sharples, Business Engagement manager at Burnley College, said:

“There are many benefits to employers of hosting a T Level student on an industry placement:

  • It’s a great way to recruit into your business once students complete their T Levels and ensure the next generation of professionals have the skills and knowledge needed by industry
  • It’s a real boost for your current workforce and workflow, as staff will gain mentoring experience and there’s an extra pair of hands and fresh perspective on projects you’re currently working on
  • It’s the ideal way to give something back to the community, helping local students to progress towards their dream careers and raising your profile as a forward-thinking employer.

“And here at Burnley College Sixth Form Centre, we’ll work closely with students and employers alike to make sure the placement runs like clockwork and both gain the maximum benefit from it.”
