To assist the school’s food technology classes, Cannock-based packaging manufacturer Advanta, has donated three pallets of its aluminium trays to Cheslyn Hay Sport and Community High School in Walsall. The donation has been welcomed by the school, which serves approximately 1,300 students from the Cheslyn Hay, Essington and Featherstone areas.

Having built a strong reputation in the local area — and a recent Ofsted inspection which judged it to be a good school — Cheslyn Hay Sport and Community High School is constantly looking for ways to improve its lessons and acquire new resources.

Advanta’s generous donation of aluminium food packaging has enabled the school to enhance its food technology classes, which is part of the school’s art, design and technology department. Food technology classes are available to students at key stage three and GCSE level, should a student decide to pursue the more advanced subject of food and nutrition.

As one of the school’s most highly-subscribed subject areas, donations like Advanta’s provides Cheslyn Hay’s students with greater access to industry standard equipment and products. Advanta, while based locally in Cannock, is one of the leading foil container manufacturers in Europe, having built a widely respected reputation in the global food industry.

“Food technology is not just a way for students to learn to whip up a quick meal,”

explained Miguel Campos.
“Some of today’s students will grow up to play pivotal roles in the industry, with some taking roles as one of the 400,000 people employed by the sector — which contributes a huge £28.2 billion to Britain’s economy.

“While Advanta is an international business, with several charitable projects happening around the world, we always aim to assist local organisations and contribute to matters close to home. Donating products to local schools is just one way for us to give back to the community.”

Advanta manages the global distribution and manufacture of its aluminium foil packaging from its headquarters in Cannock. The Midlands-based facility allows the company to serve 400 customers in over 20 countries, while employing 140 members of staff.
