Abbey Manchester Student Races to the Finish Line

Talented Abbey College Manchester, Chen Yiu Royce Yu (17), is celebrating exceptional success in a prestigious go karting championship, securing a much-coveted place in the top 25% of those taking part.


Royce, an International Foundation Programme student at the city centre-based college, has competed throughout the year in the highly-respected IAME (Italian American Motor Engineering) South East Asian Championships.


The motorsport enthusiast participated in six exhilarating races which saw him travel to destinations including Thailand, the Philippines and finally Malaysia where the season concluded. Following a tough season, and months of hard work, Royce secured an admirable 9th place position out of 38 talented racers.


Royce commented,

“I’m very proud of myself for my accomplishments in this challenging competition. Not only have I enhanced my motorsport abilities but, by travelling all over the world to race I have developed my independence, something which I believe is reflected in my academic study.

“The college has been very supportive in accommodating my intense training and racing schedule, enabling me to keep up to date with studies with the provision of online work.”
