Guests at a charity Casino Night in Weston In Gordano next month (July, 2017) can watch a celebrated Bristol pop artist paint live and also bid to take home some of his work.

Street artist, live painter and YouTuber, Stephen Quick will be at the mental health charity Changes Bristol’s event at The White Hart on Saturday, July 8 to help boost fundraising.

Vice Chair and Trustee at Changes Bristol, Alison McDougall, explained: “Stephen has offered to do live painting at the venue on the night and has also given us one of his paintings for a lucky winner to take home. We have numerous prints and paintings from other Bristol and London artists for which people can bid too. They are valued from £35 to several hundred pounds and we’re very grateful to Stephen for his contribution to our fundraiser, he’s such an exceptional artist.

“Stephen has appeared in many magazines and his speed painting videos have featured on Sky TV, as well as BBC websites, and these videos have brought him massive exposure. He now has more than 1.2 million views on YouTube. We’re really looking forward to having him with us on the night and hope his presence will help sell even more tickets.”

Stephen is an internationally collected artist with fans all around Europe and the USA, and as far afield as Australia and Japan. His highlights include painting at Upfest, painting a 29-foot mural in Bristol and producing artwork for the stage production of ‘Mojo Mickeybo’ on London’s West End.

He also won the PaintWorks Pop Up event, was twice finalist in the Kutz Stencil Art Award and took part in the Brandalism project in Paris.

Stephen said: “My art mainly represents contemporary culture via pop art. I embrace our materialistic nature, which often defines who we are. Throughout my art career I have had a fascination with what makes an icon, a celebrity, a hero, and if these people even have to be real. I am really looking forward to the fundraising event and painting live for the guests. Changes Bristol is a wonderful charity and I hope people come along to see me.”

The Casino Night evening costs £30 per person. Twenty pounds will go towards a guest’s food, drink and casino chips for the evening and £10 will be automatically donated to Changes Bristol. Each ticket includes entry to a Golden Draw.

Alison continued: “Everyone who attends has a chance to win a flight for two to Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific. Other amazing prizes up for grabs include train tickets from GWR, tickets for Brittany Ferries, sports tickets, holiday accommodation and lots of foodie vouchers, so there are plenty of chances to be a winner on the night!”

The price of each ticket also includes live music from the band ‘Rock Bottom’, welcome drinks on arrival, a huge pan of paella for guests to tuck into and a mini bus shuttle service to take people living nearby back home at the end of the evening.

Mike Yeatman, who owns The White Hart with his wife Chris, said: “We’re delighted to be able to help raise money for Changes Bristol with this Black Tie Casino Night.

“Anyone interested in buying tickets should call us on 01275 818702. People can also get tickets from the pub or at Venga at 24 High Street, Portishead. Tickets are available from Changes Bristol as well, please call 0117 941 1123.”

Changes Bristol runs 13 weekly mental health peer support meetings in Bristol. The service gives people suffering from mental health issues a place to talk about their feelings and the platform to take steps towards improving their lives.

Each of the meetings is run through the kindness of volunteers and users do not require a referral from their GP to attend.

Alison added: “As we’re a small charity, and in this current climate, it is increasingly difficult to receive any type of funding. The donations we receive go such a long way to ensuring that we can continue our mental health services, which so many rely on.

“We’re incredibly grateful to The White Hart for hosting this event and choosing to support us this year. I’d like to extend my thanks in advance to the generous people who buy tickets for this event, which promises to be great fun and if you buy a ticket you could be the lucky person heading to Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific.”
