Morris Site Machinery’s International Business Director, Phil Winnington, was boosted by home support when he raised over £1,000 for Alzheimer’s Society in his annual charity challenge.
Phil completed his 5 a Day mission to run 5k on five consecutive days at different locations across the country with colleagues, associates and friends taking on the routes too.
On day one, 14 people ran with him around Morris Site Machinery’s Four Ashes base in Wolverhampton. Day two saw a record turnout of 20 people from sister businesses tackle soaring temperatures for a park run near the Shrewsbury head office of parent group Morris & Company.
CEO Chris Morris accompanied him the following day at its SMC production facility in Gosberton, Lincolnshire commencing the run amidst a sea of lighting towers.
Staff from the Hire Association Europe (HAE) offices at Birmingham Business Park joined him on day four, in specially ordered ‘Phil’s 5-a-Day’ T-shirts. Marketing Manager Ann Harrison said:
“Hire Association employees and fellow board members braved the heat for a good cause to support Phil in his inspirational fundraising. We enjoyed the challenge set for us on Day Four, but to do this every day for five days is exceptional and Phil is an amazing guy raising money for Alzheimer's Society."
The final run was near Phil’s home in Congleton, Cheshire.
Phil said:
“This was the third year of the challenge and for a special cause. Alzheimer’s Society is Morris & Company’s chosen charity for its 150th anniversary. Its Morris Care division runs six nursing homes and understands the need for research and support for people living with dementia. “The runs were made tougher this year in the heatwave with temperatures soaring above 30 degrees so I really appreciated the efforts of those colleagues, hirers, suppliers and associates who ran with me. I’m also grateful to all those who generously sponsored me.”
Several supporters have been inspired to return to a fitness regime after taking part and the Four Ashes 5k lunchtime run was such a hit for team spirit that it is to become a monthly event for workers keen to improve their fitness.
