ACCOUNTANCY firm UHY Hacker Young brought a slice of Wimbledon to Nottingham this month (5 July) raising awareness and funds for FareShare – the UK’s largest charity fighting hunger and food waste.

UHY Hacker Young has announced FareShare as its national charity for 2018/19, with each of its 22 offices now fundraising for the charity through a series of themed events.

As part of its fundraising for FareShare, the Nottingham office held a Wimbledon themed event with its team taking part in tennis themed games, a raffle and tucking into strawberries and cream, raising £358 on the day.

Simon Browning, partner in charge of UHY Hacker Young’s Nottingham office, said:

“FareShare is a really fantastic cause and we are proud to be supporting its work both here in Nottingham and also nationally. FareShare redistributes surplus food, which would otherwise go to waste, to charities that can turn it into meals. Last year it managed 13,552 tonnes of food and redistributed enough food for 28.6 million meals!

“Our Wimbledon event was a great way for us to kick off our support of FareShare and we look forward to hosting more events for the charity over the next few months. Every £1 we raise for the charity will provide four meals to vulnerable people across the UK, so it’s an amazing and very important cause.”

The charity reaches 1,300 towns and cities through its 20 regional centres, including its centre in the East Midlands. Food has been redistributed by FareShare to 6,273 frontline charities and community groups including homeless hostels, children’s breakfast clubs and lunch clubs for older people, domestic violence refuges and community cafes.
