Leading kitchen, bathroom and bedroom manufacturer the Mereway Group enlisted the support of local Labour MP Jess Phillips to celebrate the completion of their £30,000 charity campaign, when she attended the cheque presentation on 27 January.

Staff at the Tyseley based office and factory raised £32,852.39, beating their £30,000 target from a series of charity events throughout the year. The company pledged to raise the money in celebration of 30 successful years in business in 2016. They supported four main charities that received the bulk of the funds raised, with another list of local charities selected by staff receiving smaller donations.

A range of events were undertaken during the year that saw staff and supporters cycling, running, walking, baking, playing golf, hosting dinners and even skydiving throughout the UK.

Jess made the cheque presentation to representatives from the four main charities, Acorns, The Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, Help for Heroes and Help Harry Help Others at a celebration lunch held at the Tyseley premises.

“It is a pleasure to see a successful local business giving something back,” said Jess. “It’s amazing what can be achieved when people pull together. I’m very proud to be Mereway’s MP and thank them for their efforts.”

Mereway joint MD Bob Norris said: “We are delighted that Jess could join us to mark the end of our charity campaign. It has been an amazing year with so many fantastic achievements by staff, suppliers and industry colleagues. We are grateful to all those that have supported us, giving up their time or their money to help us achieve our target.”
