Entrepreneurs Unlocked is ‘Ally of the Year’ at the New Leaf Leaders..

..with Lived Experience of the Criminal Justice System Awards

Greater Manchester, social enterprise, Entrepreneurs Unlocked CIC, has been announced as the ‘Ally of the Year’ at the National New Leaf, LLEx CJS (leaders with lived experience of the criminal justice system) Awards, for the work the social enterprise does with ex-offenders, supporting them into self-employment.

Entrepreneurs Unlocked founder, David Morgan, was revealed as the winner at the online awards ceremony. Bolton-based Entrepreneurs Unlocked offers a range of programmes, for people in prison due to be released, and ex-offenders in the community. The programmes include entrepreneurial skills, exploration sessions and self-employment short courses, enabling people with criminal histories to recognise, develop and use their entrepreneurial talent to lead crime-free lives.

The New Leaf Initiative CIC provides intensive resettlement support to serving prisoners and people with convictions in the community, helping them to find work whilst supporting other issues they may face. New Leaf launched the LLEx CJS Awards for people with lived experience, to specifically recognise outstanding individuals and organisations, alongside allies in the sector.

The New Leaf, LLEx CJS, ‘Ally of the Year’ Award recognises individuals and businesses outside of the network who champion New Leaf’s cause, their movement, and the community.

Founder of Entrepreneurs Unlocked, David Morgan, said:

“I’m really pleased and privileged to have been announced as the winner of the ‘Ally of the Year’ Award. The work that New Leaf does is really fantastic, and I am proud and humbled to have been shortlisted. To be the winner is amazing!

“I launched Entrepreneurs Unlocked 2 years ago, working with people in prison and in the community who have been through the prison system, and who are thinking about, and want to start, their own business. Winning this award is testament that Entrepreneurs Unlocked is making a difference to people’s lives, and I want to thank everybody who voted for us.”

Marie-Claire O’Brien, CEO & Founder of the New Leaf Initiative C.I.C. said:

“We would like to congratulate David for winning the LLEx CJS ‘Ally of the Year’ Award for the work he does supporting people with convictions to become self-employed. This work is so important and valued by our community, and the five judges were inspired by David's Community Interest Company and his public support for the LLEx movement in general.

“We look forward to next year’s conference and awards ceremony which will hopefully be in-person to celebrate more Allies like David, as well as those leaders with lived experience of the Criminal Justice System, which the event is all about.”
