Circadian Trust has announced the appointment of Phil Boobier, a former civil servant with forty years of experience in the public sector, as Chair of the organisation’s Trustees.

Circadian Trust is a not-for-profit organisation which operates five lifestyle centres and one dual-use sports centre in partnership with South Gloucestershire Council. Since 2013, Phil has been an independent director and Chair of Sphere Leisure Ltd, the charity’s commercial trading arm, a role which has enabled him to offer his wide range of financial and business experience to support the Trust in continuing to deliver high-quality facilities to the local community.

Phil qualified as a Management Accountant in 1992, with over a decade’s experience as an electrical engineer in the shipbuilding industry prior to this. Since qualifying, he has worked across a range of different roles within the public sector, which have focused on investment, project governance and accounting.

In addition to his role at Circadian, Phil is currently a director of Bristol-based Briarsmead Ltd and a lecturer at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College.

As a keen sports player when he was younger, Phil is now a regular visitor to the Active Lifestyle Centres, taking advantage of the range of activities on offer. Outside of work, he expresses his love of sport as a supporter and season ticket holder at Plymouth Argyle.

Of his appointment, Phil said:

"I am delighted to have been appointed as Chair of the Trustees Board. Since joining the organisation five years ago, I’ve watched the Trust deepen its relationships within the community and inspire clients to adopt healthy lifestyles – both physically and mentally.

“Circadian Trust has experienced considerable growth in the last few years and I am very much looking forward to continuing to support its future development.”

Phil takes over from Ross Parker, who has stepped down after one year of leading the Board of Trustees to accept an opportunity oversees.

Trustee Patrick van Beek, head of ALM, UK Life Finance at Aviva, remains in the role of Vice Chair.

Circadian Trust currently operates six centres across South Gloucestershire - in Bradley Stoke, Downend, Kingswood, Longwell Green, Thornbury and Yate.
