A leading Somerset coach company urgently needs to recruit up to six new drivers after securing some new contracts to transport children to and from school.

Bakers Dolphin, which is based in Weston-super-Mare, has been awarded the work which is due to start in the new academic year.

As a result, the firm is looking for between four and six new drivers.

Training and Recruitment Manager Derek Forbes said:

“We are offering a minimum of 25 hours of work per week, Monday-to-Friday, during term time, at the start and end of the school day.

“We are looking for people with a Category B driving licence – which is the standard licence most motorists have – for manual vehicles.

“This licence entitles the holder to drive a vehicle with up to eight seats.

“We are also looking for people with a D1 licence, which enables them to drive a 16-seat minibus.

“The category D1 drivers also need to have a DCPC – Drivers’ Certificate of Professional Competence – but for the right candidates, we will provide the training required in order to obtain this.

“We were awarded the contracts very recently, and work is due to start when schools return after the summer holidays, so ideally we need to find the new drivers as soon as possible.

“Because some of the people we are looking for only need the Category B licence, this might be the ideal way for anyone who has been considering a career in driving to take their first steps into this industry.

“Previous experience would be an advantage but is not necessary. What we need are competent drivers who also have good communication skills, and who have a desire to help people and provide outstanding customer service.”

Enhanced DBS checks will be mandatory.

Bakers Dolphin is a well-established business which celebrates its 130th anniversary this year.

Employee benefits include staff discounts for trips and holidays, a uniform and mobile allowance, and a driver incentive scheme.
