A county winter maintenance and snow clearance firm has been shortlisted for a business award which recognises commitment to sustainability and the environment.

Himbleton-based AA Salt, which helps businesses keep their premises safe by gritting and snow ploughing car parks and access roads in the winter months, is one of the company’s shortlisted in the Excellence in Sustainability category at the 2021 Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber Business Awards.

The family-run firm is recognised as a leading company when it comes to its green credentials.

With an aim to be carbon neutral by 2030, its initiatives include a mobile app to reduce CO2 emissions, using less-toxic white marine salt, and a plan to launch a fleet of electric vehicles.

Moving to their base in Cowsden two years ago also allowed the company to benefit from solar panel technology and introduce a rainwater harvesting plant for vehicle washing.

With education in mind, the company has also partnered with schools across Worcestershire through a tree-planting initiative and is introducing a ‘code of conduct’ for its suppliers who must prove their own eco-credentials.

Managing director Nikki Rogers said:

“To be a finalist in this years’ awards is brilliant and highlights the huge efforts we go to when it comes to the environment, getting others involved, and how we constantly challenge ourselves to be as sustainable as possible. It is all about going one step further and doing things differently.

“We’ve set ourselves a really challenging target to be carbon neutral by 2030 and we are doing everything possible to keep on track for that despite the past 12 months being so difficult for all businesses.

“Overall, it is another wonderful milestone for us and we are really looking forward to the ceremony in September and to be alongside so many other amazing businesses from Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Congratulations to all the other finalists.”

The Chamber of Commerce will host the awards evening on Thursday 2 September.
