SGi Shepherd Gilmour boosts East Midlands Growth Corridor

SGi Shepherd Gilmour, Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering outfit has landed a contract to work on Branston Locks, a 400-acre site to the south west of Burton-upon-Trent.

The £1 billion project includes 2,500 new homes and 92,900m2 of employment space.

Retail and leisure offerings at the Branston Locks sustainable urban extension include an 80-bedroom hotel, a residential care home, primary school, community space and a new home for Burton rugby club are also part of the areas development strategy.

SGi Shepherd Gilmour was appointed by Birmingham based Nurton Developments (a property development and trading company), and has been involved in the development of this area of Burton-upon-Trent for more than 25 years.

Engineers with over 50 years of experience specialising in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering, SGi Shepherd Gilmour is going from strength to strength. Recently growing its team from six to fifteen and setting a £2million target fee turnover for 2016-2017.

SGi Shepherd Gilmour provides significant volumes of pre planning and delivery engineering work across the UK for clients such as Property Alliance Group, Pochin, DB Symmetry and Eric Wright Group.

Emyr Jones, owner and director of Manchester based SGi Shepherd Gilmour, said all phase 1 infrastructure works are expected to be completed towards the end of next summer.

He added: “When my career started at SGi Shepherd Gilmour 26 years ago I worked on the Branston Locks scheme.

“I’m proud that SGi Shepherd Gilmour has been the only engineering company instructed on this key site during that time. I’ve seen it evolve over the years as part of the ongoing redevelopment in Burton.

“The irony that Branston Locks’ 26-year development plan starts this year is not lost on me and I hope it keeps me going into my retirement.”

Banston Locks is a significant development site in Staffordshire which will provide a sustainable urban extension for Burton-upon-Trent. Located immediately west of the A38, Staffordshire County Council are currently delivering a £5 million package of road and infrastructure works with funding from the government's Local Growth Deal. The road works are expected to be completed during late summer 2017.
