Twycross Zoo is celebrating Penguin Awareness Day this Friday 20 January 2017, with a whole weekend of fun activities for all ages.

From 20th to 22nd January, visitors who arrive at the zoo dressed in black and white will benefit from a special discounted entry price on tickets.

Once inside the zoo, visitors can “waddle around”, enjoying arts and crafts activities, taking part in games, and seeing keepers feed the penguins and talk about these charming creatures. Visitors can also take part in the Penguin Trail Quiz, and be in with a chance to win a family ticket.

Zoo members will also be able to collect a special Penguin Awareness Weekend Pop Badge, but will have to be as quick as a penguin swimming underwater, as limited numbers are available each day.

Dr. Charlotte Macdonald, Director of Life Sciences says, “Although penguins are very popular, people often forget that a lot of penguin species are threatened in the wild. We hope that our weekend of fun penguin-focused activities will give people a better understanding of the different species, the pressures they face in the wild and what each of us can do to help them.”

Humboldt penguins are native to coastal Chile and Peru in South America, and are classified as a vulnerable species in the wild. Twycross Zoo has a group of 24 Humboldt penguins, each of which has a name inspired by the sea, including Coral, Shrimp and Fin.

So waddle on down this weekend to Twycross Zoo and join in the fun and activities of Penguin Awareness Weekend. Visitwww.twycrosszoo.orgor call 0844 474 1777 for more information, entry prices and to book tickets. Twycross Zoo is open to the public from 10.00 to 17.00.
