The Nottingham Business Improvement District (BID) in conjunction with Nottingham City Council has launched a new rapid urban clean up service for the city centre.

The Nottingham BID has invested £30,000 in a number of new machines for pavement washing, gum removal and graffiti removal which are operated by staff from Nottingham City Council.

Members of the Nottingham BID – city centre retailers, licensed premises, businesses in the office sector and higher education establishments – can access the new service via a special hotline to the Council’s Cleansing Team when they discover ‘morning after debris’ in the city centre. The Cleansing Team is contactable 24:7 by phone or email who then direct cleansing operatives to the problem areas by radio.

“We have invested in this new equipment on behalf of our members, in order to improve the level of cleanliness around the city centre,” said Neil Fincham, a director of the Nottingham BID. “Having a clean environment is something that our members have said plays a vital part making the city attractive to visitors to the city and it is great to collaborate with Nottingham City Council to deliver this enhanced cleansing service.”

“We are extremely pleased to work in partnership with the Nottingham BID to provide this service,” said Councillor Nicola Heaton, portfolio holder for community services. “We want local residents and visitors to have a pleasant experience when they are in the city centre and cleanliness plays an important part in this.”
