Two energy supply experts with experience in the Big Six are launching an alternative energy company which plans to pro-actively help customers use less energy to dramatically cut their bills and reduce their impact on the environment.

Inspired by their desire to shake things up with a radical, yet simple, new approach to the energy supply market, Chris Russell from Leamington Spa and Simon Perkins from Nottingham have teamed up with investor and mentor Jim Hayward from Surrey, to build Tonik, a new kind of energy company.

In summary:

Tonik’s mission is to actively help its customers to reduce their energy usage by as much as 50% within five years using the latest innovative technologies and a new pricing model

Customers will have total transparency about where their money goes with no complicated tariffs

Tonik aims to fix the costs of supplying its customers with energy, instead of relying on the traditional supplier ‘mark-up’ on energy units. As a result, Tonik is incentivised to help reduce its customers’ bills

Tonik promises no exit fees and no minimum term and customers will have the opportunity to earn 3% interest when their accounts are in credit

Tonik customers will be able to buy 100% renewable electricity

Managing director Chris Russell explains: “For other suppliers, it’s about revenue and profit today, and not about building a better tomorrow with and for customers. There is such a missed opportunity to unlock the potential of smart and other modern day technologies for the benefit of customers, and to create something that is genuinely unique in its approach.

“The traditional energy supply model is very outdated and we saw an opportunity to change it so that customers benefit from being with a company that really knows how to harness these exciting technological developments. This approach means they don’t just benefit from cheaper energy at the start, they can access ways to keep saving long into the future, which is good for them and good for the environment.

“It was critical to find and collaborate with like-minded industry experts who shared my vision to do something really positive and ultimately to build a better alternative, right here in the Midlands.”

Simon Perkins, operations director, adds: “We wanted to do away with over-complicated tariffs and confusing bills, by being completely transparent about our charges – and to be truly on the side of the customer. We think customers will be excited not just by the simplicity of our approach, but also the fact that Tonik is genuinely on their side and helping them to save money and time.”
