John Pye, the UK’s largest auction house network, is working with Burton based Willshee's to achieve a leading zero waste to landfill industry standard at its Marchington site.

Willshee’s is a leading independent domestic, industrial and commercial waste management company. The family-run company has been providing waste and recycling solutions for 35 years, offering waste management, recycling and skip hire for clients.

With the country's biggest volume and widest variety of auction stock and asset offerings to the secondary market, John Pye manages huge quantities of plastic, polystyrene, cardboard and general packaging by-product waste on behalf of its Retail PLC clients.

Previously John Pye were filling ten skips a week on-site at Marchington, generating 60 tonnes a month of general waste, this has now reduced to one skip every fortnight. John Pye are now baling 30-40 tonnes a cardboard a month, 7 tonnes of plastic and 3 tonnes of compacted polystyrene, with this volume being sold as a recyclable commodity.

Willshee's partnership with John Pye offers improved solutions and covers the provision of compactor skips for general waste, the collection of mixed loads of cardboard bales, film bales, pallets and EPS briquettes and mixed metal collections.

Once back at a Willshee’s recycling facility, the waste streams are processed, recyclable material is further reprocessed whilst non-recyclable residual waste is used by UK-based ‘waste to energy’ plants creating renewable energy and completing the zero to landfill solution.

Founder John Pye started operations at Nottingham’s Cattle Market in 1968 and set about growing the business organically and into new markets, from probate to insolvency and plant and machinery. Since the year 2000, the company has been passed down to the next generation and has continued its organic growth, adding retail, vehicles, property and luxury assets to its valuation and auction portfolio.

Andrew Wardle, Saleroom Manager at John Pye’s Marchington site, commented:

"As two family firms, Willshee’s and John Pye are very much of a shared mind-set in terms of corporate, community and environmental responsibility.

“We like to work with suppliers who have a progressive approach and will always go the extra mile. Our contract with Willshee’s means we can be confident we are doing what is right for the business as well as what is right for the community and environment."

Willshee's SHEQ Manager Craig Willshee added:

"John Pye Auctions is a great business which is currently enjoying a fantastic period of growth and we are delighted to be working with them.

“Their credentials from a sustainability and responsibility perspective means that achieving zero waste to landfill is a top priority. This strategy also brings commercial savings along with peace of mind that all work is 100% compliant and traceable."
