2017 is turning out to be something of a milestone year for Agrantec, the Bristol-based technology company that specialises in traceability and data management software for the food industry.

Commercial Maturity

Formed in 2010, the company’s customer base for its NotaZone software platform now exceeds 2,500 users, while the technology itself has been adapted to provide bespoke solutions to several organisations.

In a world where the understanding of the importance of food safety and traceability is increasing, Agrantec is moving towards a new level of commercial maturity and is looking ahead to the next stage in its development with the launch of a new website - www.agrantec.com

Company founder, Martin Coates, said,

“We created NotaZone primarily to help food producers and processors to record, manage and share the production, processing, warehousing and delivery information needed to comply with food legislation.

And as a bonus, it also enables the consumer to trace the origin of the food in their shopping basket simply by scanning a QR code on our ‘active’ FollowthisFood label."

‘Bespoke simplicity’

“While we put a lot of development time into the product, it is essentially a very simple system. It is this simplicity that has enabled us to develop it into bespoke products such as the system we created to enable farmers throughout the UK to take part in the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust’s Big Farmland Bird count.”

New website

The new website highlights this simplicity.

It explains NotaZone’s comprehensive data sharing and tracking system and demonstrates how it can help food producers, processors and retailers to achieve sustainable and profitable growth.

An early user of NotaZone was Gavin Keen who operates Blackmore Vale Butchery, an award-winning traditional, family-run butchers in Dorset. Gavin comments:

“We care about how meat is handled and butchered, and we go to great efforts to work in a very selective and deliberate manner, processing individual animals carefully and completely, to produce the finest quality produce for the producer and ultimately consumer.

Using Agrantec’s NotaZone and the FollowthisFood unique code on every single item allows us to demonstrate that commitment to quality and transparency to the end consumer.”

Prospects looking good

As he looks ahead, Martin is optimistic about the prospects for Agrantec.

“We have successfully negotiated the choppy waters of start-up and have settled into a phase of steady growth.

NotaZone is now a sound and proven product helping producers stay in control and meeting the increasing consumer demand for greater confidence in the origins and safety of our food.”
