Lighting engineer, Aimie Loveday has joined the Young Lighting Professionals (YLP) regional committee as the Midlands representative.

Aimie, who works for Ibstock-based consulting development engineers, M-EC, joined the committee earlier this year to act as a conduit between the Midlands membership and the YLP national committee. Aimie is one of seven regional representatives feeding into the national committee, and is required to attend networking events, technical seminars and meetings throughout the year as part of her new role.

Aimie said: “I’ve been a member of the YLP since 2013 but when I realised the position was available, I thought it would present a fresh challenge and a chance to try something new. I’m hoping the role will not only enable me to showcase M-EC’s capabilities within the wider lighting industry but will also help towards my Engineering Technician qualification with the Institute of Lighting Professionals (ILP).”

Established in 2009, the YLP is part of the ILP and is designed to encourage younger professionals into the industry to make new contacts and progress their careers. Members can network at a range of technical meetings, attend the annual conference as well as seek advice and feedback towards their ILP Exterior Lighting Diploma and other professional qualifications.

Chris Rayner, YLP chairman commented: “As chair, it’s important that I can rely on my committee to help me get the best from and for the membership. I’d met and spoken with Aimie at previous events and it was clear she understood what we’re trying to achieve and was keen to be involved. She’s shown great enthusiasm and is a very approachable member, so to have her on the committee made for a very easy decision.”

Aimie has 12 years’ experience as a street lighting engineer, and at M-EC is currently working on schemes across the East and West Midlands, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Cambridgeshire.
