Small business support network Enterprise Nation is set to launch a start-up base in Birmingham Tuesday March 1 designed to help city businesses achieve higher growth.

City-based adviser Debbie Assinder will head-up the fast growth network’s Birmingham operation from the digital heart of the city, Innovation Birmingham, where the firm will organise targeted events, support and workshops.

According to statistics from national enterprise campaign StartUp Britain, Birmingham is the most entrepreneurial city outside of London, with 14,153 companies registered in the city in 2015 alone.

Emma Jones, founder of Enterprise Nation, said: “The world of business has changed. More people then ever before are starting businesses and this trend shows no sign of abating. As a consequence the support and business environment must adapt to offer on the spot help to ensure these firms can build sustainable profitability.

“Debbie is going to be our woman on the ground In Birmingham, tapping into the already-booming start-up community and creating a buzz around enterprise.”

Debbie will be working with major enterprise support bodies within Birmingham such as Innovation Birmingham, Birmingham City University, Learning and Business at the Library of Birmingham, Art Business Loans, KPMG and IoD West Midlands to offer regular events, clinics and support.

Debbie said: “Our mission is to help start-ups and small businesses build profitability whilst making the most of a skill or passion, whether they are high-powered tech firms or people looking to improve their work life balance while providing for their family.

“I’ve been working as an adviser in the city for 20 years, I know this economic environment, I know who the key players in the City are and those who can help create change to support this new ecosystem. We will help small businesses get to grips with digital tools, make sales to big brands and raise their profile. This will be delivered through a basic utility of online support, plus lively events across the Midlands."

Enterprise Nation Birmingham will be kicking off with an enterprise event in partnership with professional services firm KPMG and the Institute of Directors as part of International Women’s Day to celebrate female entrepreneurship in the West Midlands. It will then be following up with a full programme of events including Meet the Journalist with a panel of regional and national business reporters and a fashion and jewellery Exchange event aimed at linking up local creative firms with industry buyers.

David Hardman, head of Innovation Birmingham said: "We are delighted to be housing Enterprise Nation at Innovation Birmingham as we have a shared vision to increase the number of start-ups in the city and surrounding area, and support existing businesses to grow. Much of that growth will come from embracing digital tools and we look forward to working with Enterprise Nation to ensure small businesses get access to the information and advice required to make the most of the digital opportunity."
