Lord Lieutenant praises Burnley College for its forward-looking technology and teaching

Burnley College recently hosted a visit from the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire, Amanda Parker, to exhibit its status as England's Number 1 College* and celebrate its innovation and educational excellence.


Recognised by the Government for its exceptional achievements, the college showcased its advanced facilities and curriculum which integrate the latest technology with strong industry partnerships, underlining its commitment to providing unrivalled learning experiences.


Principal Karen Buchanan led the tour, presenting the diverse range of state-of-the-art facilities including its groundbreaking Esports Suites, recently expanded Centre of Engineering Excellence equipped with automation, robotics and 3D printing facilities, Fitness Evolution's cryotherapy and Elite Athlete gym and as well as healthcare simulation suite in the Science, Health and Education facilities. These areas exemplify the college's dedication to preparing students with the skills needed for today's workforce through practical experience and technological engagement.


The college's apprenticeship training arm, Themis, was highlighted for its collaborations with more than 600 leading employers, ensuring that students acquire essential workplace competencies.


Innovations such as using drones for real-world applications and virtual campus tours with Matterport 360 cameras were demonstrated, showcasing how Burnley College is at the forefront of educational technology.


There was also much discussion about T Levels, the qualification that is shaping the future of education. T Levels offer students substantial workplace experience alongside theoretical study, particularly beneficial in fields requiring hands-on experience like healthcare.


Principal of Burnley College, Karen Buchanan was proud to give such a distinguished guest a tour of the exceptional campus:

"It was an honour to welcome the Lord Lieutenant to our amazing campus. She was extremely interested and asked in-depth questions to our divisional leads on the tour.

"We were proud to present her with a small gift of a 3D printed box, bearing the red rose of Lancashire, that was produced by learners in the 3D Print Lab.

"We really enjoy the opportunity to celebrate our students' incredible achievements which really bring to life our status as Number One college in England."
