..as they continue to react to the needs of the industry with specialist training

According to the latest report from data specialist Glenigan, the UK construction industry will continue to suffer from the impact of labour shortages and price inflation this year, following a difficult 2022, which has been compounded by the war in Ukraine and will continue to impact the UK markets for the foreseeable future.

So, while the construction industry looks set to remain flat, we can see from industry projections that the electrical market is continuing to go from strength to strength. Predictions show that UK business growth for electricians in 2023 is estimated at 3.6%. Naturally you would expect to see an uptake in the industry with registered technicians to meet the demands of this growth. However, through their own experience HSS Training are aware that there is a shortage for registered electricians across the country.

This is supported by statistics from Statista who predict that the ‘number of electricians and electrical fitters employed in the UK has been fluctuating… in 2019, there were roughly 259,000' electricians which continued to decrease year on year.

We can approximate some of the boom in this market is the drive for renewable energies and the government's demand to reach ‘Net Zero' by 2050. The introduction of solar panels, electrical vehicle charging points and heat pumps to combat the effect of fossil fuels and lower our carbon emissions has seen a spike in the number of technicians required across the UK to meet demand.

Initial estimates tell us that the renewable electricity generation market size will hit 8.5 billion in 2023 up 13.4%. Training professionals are acutely aware of these changes and how they will affect technicians over the coming years. With this in mind they have bolstered their already extensive course offering to ensure all technicians have the opportunity to upskill. Despite the shortage of installers not only in the renewable sector but across the electrical field they continue to strive to provide a wide range of courses to ensure that all technicians are compliant and up to date with relevant legislation and best practice.
